Fusion Energy Landscape

Nuclear fusion is the source of all usable energy in the universe, and the ability to master this process on the planet Earth means we can get 700 gallons of gasoline worth of energy out of a gallon of seawater by burning naturally occurring deuterium, an isotope of hydrogen.

While the sun compresses hydrogen to fusion conditions with gravity, here on Earth its a bit different: compressing plasma to fusion conditions has been a long and steady march of technical and engineering progress for over 60 years of publicly funded science, and the torch has now been passed to a new generation of private commercial fusion companies.

This event will feature talks from the scientists, engineers, and founders of fusion companies across the energy landscape of reactor designs, covering things like magnetic confinement in near-steady state conditions like stellarators and tokamaks, magneto-inertial confinement using pulsed operation systems like Z-pinch, as well as laser inertial confinement and electrostatic inertial confinement.
