Xcimer Energy develops high-energy laser systems for fusion energy power plants and national security. Xcimer was founded in 2022 by Conner Galloway and Alexander Valys, who met as randomly assigned roommates at MIT and worked together as post-grads at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The company raised $165M in Series A funding from blue-chip tech and energy investors, including GigaScale Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Emerson Collective, LowerCarbon Capital, Prelude Ventures, Leitmotif and the US Department of Energy, which awarded Xcimer the largest award among laser fusion companies. The team includes experts from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the National Ignition Facility, SpaceX, Blue Origin, Tesla, MIT and other innovators. Headquarters are in Denver, Colorado, near key suppliers and talent pools. The company built and operates the world’s largest privately funded laser, and earlier this month became one of the first fusion companies whose design and roadmap were approved by the US DOE.
