The MIT Media Lab is an academic research laboratory within MIT's School of Architecture and Planning that comprises dozens of research groups developing technologies across diverse areas. Affective Computing develops ways to communicate, understand, and respond to emotion; Biomechatronics enhances human physical capability; Camera Culture makes the invisible visible inside bodies, around us, and beyond for health, work, and connection; Fluid Interfaces designs systems for cognitive augmentation; Personal Robots builds intelligent personified technologies that collaborate with people to learn, thrive, and flourish; and Tangible Media invents new tangible and embodied interactions. The lab includes over 400 active research projects and offers a graduate Program in Media Arts and Sciences. Leadership consists of Faculty Director Tod Machover, Muriel R. Cooper Professor of Music and Media, Executive Director Jessica Rosenworcel, and Associate Director Hiroshi Ishii, Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Arts and Sciences. It was founded in 1985 and is headquartered at 75 Amherst Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
