FutureHouse builds AI agents and tools to automate scientific research workflows in biology and other sciences. It has released PaperQA2, a question-answering package for scientific PDFs and text files that provides grounded responses with in-text citations, and a platform offering access to scientific agents for discovery tasks. Key research outputs include OXtal, an all-atom diffusion model that predicts crystal structures from 2D molecular graphs; ether0, a reasoning model specialized for chemistry tasks; and DISCO, a system for inventing novel enzymes beyond natural evolution. The organization spun out Edison Scientific in 2025 to commercialize its AI platform for laboratory use. FutureHouse was founded in 2023 by Sam Rodriques (CEO and co-founder) and Andrew White (Head of Science and co-founder), with Jessica Wu as Head of Operations. It operates from San Francisco, CA, and is primarily funded philanthropically by Eric Schmidt along with other supporters.
