Will Regan ↗

Chief Scientist · Pacific Fusion

Will Regan, Ph.D., is the co-founder and Chief Scientist of Pacific Fusion, a Fremont, California-based startup founded in 2023 to deliver on-demand clean energy through pulser-driven inertial fusion. Pacific Fusion uses fast-rising high-current pulses to magnetically compress deuterium-tritium fuel targets, aiming for net facility gain (more fusion energy out than electricity in) on their Demonstration System by 2030. A UC Berkeley alumnus who previously co-developed ARPA-E's ALPHA program, Regan later led energy and climate projects at Google X — including founding Alphabet's Mineral agricultural tech division. He helped build a team of national lab veterans and hardtech industry leaders to prototype systems and raised a $1B+ milestone-based Series A from General Catalyst and others. A congressional witness on fusion's promise for U.S. energy leadership, communicator on podcasts and technical papers, and advocate for pragmatic paths to TW-scale power, Regan is driving a roadmap toward pilot plants in the 2030s to meet demand from AI, electrification, and global prosperity.

Pacific Fusion ↗

Pacific Fusion develops fusion energy technology using a pulser-driven inertial fusion approach that builds on leading inertial fusion concepts and advanced pulsed power engineering. They aim to demonstrate net facility gain by 2030 and the first power generation by the mid 2030s, with the ultimate goal to produce the world's most affordable firm power. They have raised over $1 billion in funding from investors such as General Catalyst, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and Lowercarbon Capital, and company builders such as Eric Schmidt, Patrick Collison, and Ken Griffin. The company is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Gigascale Capital ↗

Gigascale Capital backs early-stage companies rebuilding the physical economy for climate impact. Founded in 2023 by former Meta CTO Mike Schroepfer, Victoria Beasley, and Evaline Tsai, the firm has invested in more than 25 companies across clean energy, advanced manufacturing, grid infrastructure, and physical AI. Some decarbonize directly. Others build the enabling layers that make physical systems faster and cheaper to design, build, and deploy. In both cases, climate impact follows from better performance.

Lowercarbon Capital ↗

Lowercarbon Capital is a climate-focused venture capital firm founded in 2018 by renowned investor Chris Sacca (formerly of Lowercase Capital, with early bets on Uber and Twitter) and his partners, dedicated to backing companies that drastically reduce CO₂ emissions, remove carbon from the atmosphere, and develop technologies to mitigate climate impacts. With over $2 billion in assets under management, it invests primarily in early-stage and growth-stage startups across sectors like clean energy, carbon removal, sustainable materials, food/agriculture, transportation, and advanced manufacturing. The firm has built a large portfolio of over 200 companies, including unicorns such as Crusoe (sustainable compute infrastructure), Watershed (enterprise carbon management), and Solugen (bio-based chemicals), alongside notable investments in frontier tech like Zap Energy (fusion), Heirloom and Avalanche Energy (carbon removal and fusion), Sublime Systems (low-carbon cement), and Crux (clean energy tax credits marketplace). Lowercarbon stands out for its aggressive, founder-friendly approach—providing hands-on support, hustling for portfolio success, and funding high-risk research—while emphasizing that profitable, superior technologies are key to scaling climate solutions and "unf**king the planet."
