About

Wen Hsieh is the Founding Managing Partner of Matter Venture Partners, a Palo Alto-based venture capital firm he launched in 2023 alongside co-founder Haomiao Huang, raising an impressive $300 million debut fund—backed by Kleiner Perkins, TSMC, and others—to fuel "HardTech" innovations in AI, robotics, semiconductors, electrification, space tech, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability. A Caltech PhD in electrical engineering with a minor in biology, Hsieh spent 17 years as a Managing Partner at Kleiner Perkins (including leading KPCB China), where he spearheaded landmark investments in companies like DJI (drones), Desktop Metal (3D printing), Amprius (high-energy batteries), and LuxVue (acquired by Apple), while serving on boards for ventures reshaping edge AI, orthodontics, and autonomous systems. Before VC, he founded MEMS biochip startup OnChip Technologies and honed strategic expertise as an Associate Principal at McKinsey, advising global semiconductor giants; now at Matter, he partners deeply with founders as a "co-founder-type investor" to accelerate real-world hardware breakthroughs that matter most.
