ZettaJoule
Startup

ZettaJoule, Inc. develops advanced small modular reactors (SMRs) based on high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology to supply clean heat and electricity. Its website says the company is targeting industrial customers such as oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, steelmaking, mining, e-fuels, desalination, and data centers, and that its reactors are designed to provide up to 950°C process heat and 24/7 electricity through on-site deployment or an “energy-as-a-service” model. The company says its approach is built on Japan Atomic Energy Agency’s High-Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) and positions the technology as a modernized version of proven HTGR infrastructure. ZettaJoule says it was founded in 2023, and Globis Capital Partners lists the company as founded in August 2023 with Mitsuo Shimofuji as CEO; the company’s site also identifies Shimofuji as co-founder, president, and CEO. ZettaJoule says it has offices in Houston, Washington, D.C., Tokyo, and Mito, Japan. Globis Capital Partners also states that it made a seed investment in December 2024, but the amount and lead investors are not disclosed in the sources provided.
