Wright Electric develops ultra-lightweight motors, generators, and batteries for aerospace and defense applications, including the WM2500 electric aircraft engine, WV250 250 kW aviation inverter, and Dynamo 30 kW generator. The company has achieved 1 MW shaft power output from its aviation electric motors and 1.2 MW electric propulsion in hybrid-electric crop duster test flights with Axter Aerospace. Markets served include the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, NASA, and FAA, with airline partners such as easyJet and VivaAerobus for electric airliners including the Wright Spirit 100-passenger BAe 146 retrofit and Wright 1 186-passenger aircraft. Technology encompasses megawatt-class electric propulsion systems and batteries targeting 1000 Wh/kg energy density developed with Columbia University. Founded in 2016 by Jeff Engler (CEO, ex-Podimetrics co-founder with degrees from Columbia and Harvard). Secured grants including $3.34M FAA FAST award in 2024, U.S. Air Force contract for lightweight batteries, and ARPA-E/DOE awards for battery and propulsion development. Headquartered in Malta, NY.
