The Special Competitive Studies Project produces reports and action plans assessing U.S. competitiveness in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including the U.S. Fusion Supply Chain Report, Robotics Scorecard, Space Race in the 21st Century assessing China's challenge to American leadership, U.S. EV Competitiveness Report, The Digital Case Officer on reimagining espionage with AI, and Adaptation of War on lessons for modern conflict. These outputs are directed toward U.S. policymakers and national security stakeholders. Founded in October 2021 by Eric Schmidt (Chair, former CEO and Chairman of Google who joined in 2001 and served until 2011 as CEO/Chairman and later Executive Chairman). Led by CEO and President Ylli Bajraktari (former Executive Director of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, Chief of Staff to National Security Advisor LTG H.R. McMaster, and roles in Department of Defense). Funded through the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Fund for Strategic Innovation as a subsidiary of The Eric & Wendy Schmidt Operating Foundation.
