SpaceWERX is the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force and a division of AFWERX, using SBIR and STTR funding to advance commercial space technologies and transition them to operational use for Guardians. It partners with small businesses, startups, and nontraditional vendors and works with Space Systems Command’s Commercial Space Office on space commercialization and technology transition. Arthur F. Grijalva serves as director, and SpaceWERX is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Public materials place SpaceWERX’s annual program execution at about $460 million, with roughly 40 military, civilian, and contractor personnel and about 300 contracts totaling $510 million in fiscal 2025.
