Project Omega
Startup · 443 ATTENDEES REACHED

Project Omega recycles spent nuclear fuel into long-duration, high-density power sources resembling AA or AAA batteries and critical materials for advanced reactors. The power sources target military applications such as wearables, sensors, and drones in contested environments, space systems, and maritime missions. It employs a molten-salt electrochemical recycling platform and chemistry processing techniques to separate key isotopes like strontium-90 from spent fuel. The company was founded and is led by CEO Dr. Stafford Sheehan, a scientist and entrepreneur on his fourth startup. Project Omega raised $12 million in an oversubscribed seed round in February 2026, led by Starship Ventures with participation from Mantis Ventures, Buckley Ventures, Decisive Point, and Slow Ventures. It has partnered with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for proof-of-concept testing and Idaho National Laboratory for separation processes, and received ARPA-E funding.
