MITRE operates six federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) that provide systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to U.S. government agency sponsors. These FFRDCs address challenges in national security, aviation safety, cybersecurity, healthcare, homeland security, and transportation for sponsors including the Department of Defense, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Health and Human Services. Specific outputs include the CVE dictionary of computer vulnerabilities, ATT&CK knowledge base of adversary tactics and techniques, TCAS collision avoidance system logic for aircraft, and mCODE standardized data sets for cancer patient records. Technologies encompass applied science and advanced engineering via MITRE Labs, such as AI applications in the Federal AI Sandbox, post-quantum cryptography, and data analytics for weather intelligence and legacy IT modernization. The organization is led by President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Peters, Ph.D., who assumed the role in 2024. Headquarters are in McLean, Virginia, with a principal location in Bedford, Massachusetts, and dozens of additional U.S. offices plus sites in Australia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.[[1]](https://www.mitre.org/)[[2]](https://www.mitre.org/who-we-are/our-story)[[3]](https://www.mitre.org/who-we-are/our-people/our-leadership)[[4]](https://www.mitre.org/locations)
