memQ develops the extensible quantum network architecture (xQNA), which comprises quantum network interface controllers (QNICs) that convert qubits from matter to photons for transmission over optical networks, quantum memory modules (QMM) using stable rare earth qubits for temporary storage and entanglement, quantum control systems that enable atom addressing via laser modulation and photon switching/routing, and an extensible distributed quantum compiler (xDQC) that orchestrates quantum workloads across distributed resources. The xQNA connects quantum processing units (QPUs) from chips to data centers while leveraging existing silicon production and C-band telecom infrastructure. It employs integrated quantum photonics fabricated on commercial foundry processes and solid-state platforms to generate, store, and distribute photonic qubits. Co-founded in October 2022 by Manish Singh (co-founder and CPO, PhD in quantum engineering from University of Chicago, former TSMC integration and process engineer), Sean Sullivan (co-founder and CTO, PhD in materials engineering from University of Texas at Austin, former Argonne National Laboratory postdoc), and Supratik Guha (co-founder, professor at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and Argonne senior scientist). Charles Foley serves as CEO and chairman. memQ raised $2.5 million in a seed round in March 2023 from George Shultz Innovation Fund and Quantonation, and $10 million in a Series A round in March 2026 co-led by Quantonation and Ocean Azul Partners with participation from Bluesky Capital, Exposition Partners, Grayarch Partners, Harper Court Ventures, Hyde Park Venture Partners, Illinois Innovation Venture Fund, Qbeat Ventures, Skydeck Capital, Transpose Platform, and Yaletown Ventures. The company is headquartered in Chicago, IL, as a tenant of the University of Chicago’s Science Incubator at Hyde Park Labs.
