Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory conducts research and development in strategic deterrence, delivering warhead modernization and sustaining the U.S. nuclear stockpile through science-based stockpile stewardship. It provides high-performance computing, simulation, and data science capabilities using world-class supercomputing resources to address national security challenges. The lab develops lasers, optics, and optical technologies, including next-generation laser systems, and conducts high-energy-density science experiments studying materials under extreme conditions. Additional programs include nuclear, chemical, and isotopic science; energetic materials for nuclear deterrent and munitions; artificial intelligence for strategic deterrence and nonproliferation; and semiconductor, micro, and nano technologies. These efforts support the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
