Extropic builds thermodynamic sampling units (TSUs), hardware that accelerates probabilistic inference by leveraging thermodynamic fluctuations in electronics. The company has produced prototype platforms including XTR-0 and released an open-source Python library THRML. It targets probabilistic AI workloads such as generative models and large language models. Extropic raised $14.1 million in a seed round in December 2023. The round was led by Kindred Ventures with participation from HOF Capital, Julian Capital, Marque VC, OSS Capital, Valor Equity Partners, Weekend Fund, and angels including Aidan Gomez of Cohere and Balaji Srinivasan.
