Coreshell Technologies
Coreshell Technologies develops battery materials and coatings for lithium-ion and silicon-based batteries, with a focus on improving performance and lowering cost for electric-vehicle and energy-storage applications. The company’s core technology is a nanolayer coating for battery electrodes that is designed to let lithium move more easily, reduce damaging chemical reactions, and speed battery manufacturing. Coreshell has worked with BASF to test its coatings with cathode materials and has collaborated with Ferroglobe to produce battery-grade metallurgical silicon for EVs. The company was founded in 2017 by Jonathan Tan and Roger Basu. Its board includes Alex Fang of Entrada Ventures and Hinrich Woebcken of Trousdale Ventures as board directors. Coreshell raised $4 million in a financing round led by Entrada Ventures, with participation from Baruch Future Ventures, Tsingyuan Ventures, the California Energy Commission, Sema Translink, Berkeley SkyDeck, and Alchemist Accelerator. It is headquartered in San Francisco.
