Aurelius Systems, founded in 2024 by Michael LaFramboise and John Marmaduke, is a San Francisco-based defense technology company developing autonomous directed-energy laser systems to counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The company's flagship product, the Archimedes Laser Sentinel, is a modular, AI-guided laser turret designed to detect, track, and neutralize drone threats at ranges exceeding one kilometer, with a marginal cost of approximately $0.10 per engagement compared to conventional air-defense alternatives. The system serves military forces, government agencies, and critical infrastructure operators protecting troops, forward operating bases, and assets from aerial threats. Aurelius closed a $10 million seed round in September 2025 co-led by General Catalyst and Draper Associates, with additional backing from Outlander VC and Decisive Point. The company won the U.S. Army's first FUZE competition at the Association of the United States Army conference in October 2025. In April 2026, Aurelius launched Aurelius Manufacturing, a domestic production division for high-power fiber laser source modules and optical assemblies used in directed-energy systems.
