AT2 Aerospace develops hybrid airships combining helium-based aerostatic lift with aerodynamic lift from the hull and vectored thrust propulsion. The airships employ an Air Cushion Landing System for operations on unprepared surfaces such as fields, water, snow, ice, and sand, delivering over 23 tons of useful payload with capacity for 19 passengers. They are designed for zero-emissions operation using hydrogen fuel. Straightline Aviation placed a $50 million order for Z1 hybrid airships in March 2025, while Arctic Airships ordered two Z1 airships with options for eighteen more to support remote logistics. AT2 Aerospace spun out from Lockheed Martin in May 2023, acquiring its hybrid airship intellectual property including the LMH-1/P-791 program. Dr. Bob Boyd serves as President and CEO after leading Lockheed's Hybrid Airship program, holding a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and multiple patents; Philip Burns-O’Brien is Chief Revenue Officer with prior experience at Babcock International and an MS in Electrical Engineering; John Morehead is Chief Engineer with over 20 years on hybrid airships including the P-791 at LTA Research and degrees from UCLA. The headquarters is in Santa Clarita, CA.
