Jon Nelson is a seasoned healthcare communications executive with over 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, where he has transitioned into a prominent mental health advocate and lived-experience expert. Having battled severe depression for much of his life, Nelson achieved remission through deep brain stimulation (DBS), a groundbreaking procedure that not only saved his life but also fueled his mission to combat mental health stigma and support others facing similar challenges. As co-founder and Chief Lived Experience Officer of Neurolive, a consulting firm dedicated to integrating lived experience perspectives into mental health, wellness, and neurological product development, he collaborates with neuroscientist Dr. Rachel Wurzman to amplify patient voices in the industry. Additionally, Nelson serves as Director of Lived Experience at Motif Neurotech, advises nonprofits such as One Mind and the Mental Health Collaborative, and speaks at national forums, including NIH congressional briefings, to advance mental health awareness. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he resides in Newtown, PA, with his wife Barbara and their three children.
