About

Chip Huyen is a renowned computer scientist, author, and educator whose work bridges machine learning research and production deployment, making her one of the most influential voices in MLOps and AI engineering. A Stanford graduate from a rural Vietnamese village, she created and taught the highly acclaimed course CS 329S: Machine Learning Systems Design, inspiring her bestselling O'Reilly book Designing Machine Learning Systems (2022)—an Amazon #1 in AI translated into over 10 languages—and its follow-up AI Engineering (2025), the most-read title on O'Reilly's platform. Previously, Huyen built production ML tools at Netflix, contributed as a core developer to NVIDIA's NeMo framework, led open-source efforts at Snorkel AI, and co-founded Claypot AI (acquired), a real-time ML platform. Now focused on AI's intersections with storytelling, education, and GPU-accelerated data at Voltron Data, she continues to shape reliable, scalable AI systems while mentoring founders and sharing insights through her widely followed blog and talks.
