Zero Acre
Startup

Zero Acre Farms manufactures cooking oils produced through fermentation of sugarcane, with its flagship product "Zero Acre oil" launched in 2022 and a newer organic fruit oil called Fera launched in April 2026. The company targets restaurants and foodservice operators as primary customers, with adoption by chains including Shake Shack, and also sells direct-to-consumer through its website. The oil is made by feeding microbes plant sugars, which convert them into fat with a neutral taste and high smoke point; the process uses 99% less water than olive oil and 87% less land than canola oil. CEO and co-founder Jeff Nobbs leads the company, which is structured as a public benefit corporation. Zero Acre raised $37 million in a funding round reported in early 2022 and has received investment from Cultivate Next, Chipotle's venture fund. The company's products carry certifications including USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Seed Oil-Free Certified.
