Zanskar
Startup · HQ Salt Lake City, UT · FOUNDED 2021

Zanskar develops geothermal energy projects using AI-powered geoscience models to analyze subsurface data and identify untapped hotspots for power plant development across the western U.S. Its platform combines machine learning, predictive analytics, and field drilling methods to map reservoirs and accelerate exploration, with discoveries including the "Big Blind" site in Nevada featuring a 250-degree-Fahrenheit permeable reservoir at 2,700 feet depth. The company controls sites with over 700 megawatts of potential and plans six 20-megawatt greenfield power plants targeting commercial operations before 2030. Co-founded in 2021 by CEO Carl Hoiland and CTO Joel Edwards, it also lists Diego D’Sola as head of finance. Zanskar raised $115 million in a 2024 Series C round led by Spring Lane Capital, with participation from Obvious Ventures, Union Square Ventures, and Lowercarbon Capital, following a $30 million Series B; in 2026 it closed a $40 million development capital facility led by Just Climate and Spring Lane Capital. Headquarters are in Salt Lake City, Utah, with earlier references to Provo, Utah.
