Verdox
Startup · HQ Woburn, MA · FOUNDED 2019

Verdox develops an electrochemical carbon capture system that uses electrical energy alone to capture and release CO₂ from industrial emissions and ambient air, consuming 1.5 GJ per ton regardless of concentration. The technology, known as electroswing adsorption (ESA) and protected by over 20 patents, targets markets including industrial manufacturing, oil and gas, power and utilities, chemical production, metals and smelting, and direct air capture. It originated from MIT research and eliminates heat-intensive processes of conventional methods. The company was founded in late 2019 by Dr. Brian Baynes (CEO), Prof. T. Alan Hatton (Scientific Advisory Board), and Dr. Sahag Voskian (CTO). Verdox raised $80 million in a Series A round in January 2022 led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, with participation from Prelude Ventures and Lowercarbon Capital. Hydro invested $20 million separately. The company is headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts.
