Noya develops direct air capture technology that uses activated carbon monoliths coated with CO2 capture chemicals to extract carbon dioxide from ambient air, with fans moving air through the sorbent and electricity releasing the CO2 for permanent geological storage. The modular system also produces clean water and provides grid services alongside carbon removal credits. Shopify serves as its first customer. The company was founded in 2020 by Josh Santos and Daniel Cavero, both engineers from MIT and SDSU. Noya raised a Series A round co-led by Collab Fund and Union Square Ventures. Its pilot facility operates in the San Francisco Bay Area, with Oakland, California, as its base. In 2024, it partnered with Johnson Matthey to manufacture its proprietary sorbent for megaton-scale deployment.
