Startup·HQ Le Perreux-sur-Marne, France·FOUNDED 2021
Genomines genetically enhances hyperaccumulator plants from the Asteraceae family to extract nickel and other metals from soil through phytoextraction, harvesting biomass every four to six months and processing it via pyrolysis into nickel concentrate with 40-60% purity, richer than traditional mining outputs. The company targets battery-grade nickel for electric vehicle supply chains, exploring proof-of-concept projects with Hyundai Motor Group, Jaguar Land Rover, and battery manufacturers while planning industrial deployment in South Africa. Founded in 2021 by Fabien Koutchekian, who serves as CEO, and Dr. Dali Rashid, CTO. Genomines raised a $45 million Series A in 2024 led by Engine Ventures and Forbion BioEconomy, bringing total funding to $62 million including a $5 million seed round and $12 million in non-dilutive support from BPI France. Headquarters are in Le Perreux-sur-Marne, France, with a 600 m² lab and field operations scaling to 100 hectares.
