Ecosafi
Startup · HQ Nairobi, Kenya

EcoSafi manufactures gasification cookstoves, including the BetterStove, and produces sustainable wood pellet fuel from agricultural waste such as sugarcane bagasse, distributed via a subscription model where premium stoves are provided for free or low cost in exchange for pellet purchases. The company serves households and restaurants in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, and Malawi, with pellets priced at 55 KES per kg in Kenya or 1,400 UGX per kg in Uganda, about half the cost of charcoal or LPG. Their forced-draft stoves achieve WHO tier 4+ for PM2.5 emissions and tier 5 for carbon monoxide, 95-98% cleaner than charcoal, while enabling carbon credit sales under Gold Standard methodology. EcoSafi operates from headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Tom Price serves as founder and CEO. The company has raised $9 million total, including a $2 million round about one year ago.
