The Deutsches Klimarechenzentrum GmbH operates the HLRE-4 Levante supercomputer and provides high-capacity data storage systems, including tape libraries with space for 77,000 magnetic tapes, as the central research infrastructure for simulation-based climate science in Germany. It supplies computing time, archive capacity, data management servers, and technical support for running complex numerical earth system models. These HPC resources are tailored for the data-intensive demands of climate simulations performed by German climate and earth system scientists. Prof. Dr. Thomas Ludwig serves as Director and Managing Director, also heading the scientific computing group at the University of Hamburg's Department of Informatics. The organization maintains its headquarters at Bundesstraße 45a in Hamburg, Germany.
